The Deluxe Bokashi Food Waste Recycling System
Composting: easy as 1, 2, 3...
Fill the bucket with food waste
Simply add leftovers and sprinkle Bokashi in layers coating the food and close with the airtight lid. If you are using the bucket without a spigot, be sure to layer an inch of Bokashi rice bran powder at the bottom of the bin before you start adding food.
Let the bucket rest
Once the bucket is full, let the food waste ferment for 1 to 2 weeks. If you are using the Deluxe Bokashi bucket with the spigot, drain the nutrient-rich fluid every other day. Use this liquid fertilizer to feed your garden or houseplants. All it takes is 1 teaspoon of this liquid per 1 gallon of water!
Reap your rewards!
After the food waste has fermented in the Bokashi bucket, you can use the end product to improve the environment in several ways. Bury the waste in your garden, add it to an existing compost pile or worm bed, or feed it to livestock!
Reap your composting rewards!
Bury the waste in soil
Simply add to an existing garden bed or soil that needs amending. For best results, dig a trench, add in food waste, mix in some soil, and cover with 4 to 8 inches of soil.
Feed to livestock
The pickled food waste is loaded with live beneficial microbes, vitamins, and amino acids that are excellent nutrient sources for your animals.
Feed to your worms
Worms love this stuff! The fermentation process softens the food waste, so the worms have an easier time breaking it down and it's loaded with the live bacteria worms just love to eat!
Add to your compost pile
Simply dig into the compost pile and add the fermented waste. The abundant beneficial microbes in the food waste will speed along the composting as well!
"Bokashi" is Japanese for fermented organic matter and the Bokashi method does just that! The Bokashi compost system utilizes rice bran and beneficial microbes to break down materials into
a high quality soil additive. Faster, more compact and far less smelly than traditional food waste composting, Bokashi makes going green and repairing damaged soils easier than ever. Whether you live in an apartment, condo or home – your Bokashi compost kit will give you the means for efficient food waste composting. And, because the Bokashi system utilizes fermentation rather than decomposition to break down foods, there is no rancid smell to attract unwanted pests.
Teraganix offers two different Bokashi solutions: First we have the Bokashi Food Waste Recycling System
as seen on the left. It includes two Bokashi buckets, two easy-open lids, and 5lbs of Bokashi bran. This kit's buckets do not have a drain or collection system, making the process a bit more hands-free.
Our second kit – as seen on the right - comes with one fermentation bucket, 2lbs of Bokashi, one
easy-open lid, one sieve, one tamper, and one scoop for measuring Bokashi bran. The Deluxe
Bokashi Bucket Fermenter features a sieve and spigot to collect the liquid produced during fermentation.
This liquid is a concentrated fertilizer that can be used to feed all your plants inside and out of the home.
All our Bokashi buckets are specifically designed for the Bokashi system for recycling household
food wastes. They are compact for convenient use in the home and feature flexible, easy-open, air-tight lids.
The Deluxe Bokashi Bucket Fermenter bucket is also infused with EM-X® Ceramic powders that accelerate
the fermentation process even more. Recycling food waste just doesn't get easier than this!
Once fermentation is complete you simply add the entire contents of the bucket into a hole and cover with
soil. Hose out the buckets after each use. The result is a low effort, high reward food recycling experience
that makes going green easier than ever.
