What is Candida?

Candida is a type of fungi within the yeast family. There are many different types or strains of Candida. Candida within the body is a normal occurrence, however, when Candida overgrows it can cause a variety of issues. More and more attention has been brought to Candida overgrowth recently, as it seems to be a cause of general malaise throughout the population. For years, doctors have blamed these generic symptoms on stress and other issues. Many people have sought medical attention, only to find out that there is "nothing wrong with them". As there is not an exact test for Candida overgrowth, many doctors just dismissed the issue altogether. However, Candida overgrowth is now being cited as the cause of many of these general malaise symptoms, and many people have been able to find peace by treating for candida overgrowth. Certain foods and medicines can trigger candida overgrowth within the body, and it is important that you are mindful of the products you are putting in your body.

How Candida Overgrowth Affects You

Candida overgrowth is said to affect your energy level, ability to concentrate, bloating, aches and pains, yeast infections, and a number of other symptoms and illnesses. For years, many doctors have been over-prescribing antibiotics, and this is one of the main sources for candida overgrowth. Candida overgrowth can be contributed to over use of a number of prescription medicines (particularly antibiotics) as well as a diet high in carbohydrates, white sugars and processed foods. It's important to be mindful of how often we use medicines like antibiotics, as well as the amount of sugars we are eating on a daily basis. Foods high in sugar feed Candida living within the body, and a diet high in sugar often leads to Candida overgrowth. There is not a specific treatment for Candida overgrowth, however there are certain foods you can eliminate that feed Candida overgrowth, as well as cleansing the digestive system to keep Candida under control.
