EM-1® is a ready-to-use soil conditioner, comprised of Effective Microorganisms. EM-1® increases the germination rate, increases seedling health and helps improve drainage, aeration, moisture retention and soil structure. The beneficial microorganisms within EM-1® produce proteins, enzymes, vitamins and hormones that positively effect seed growth.
Because EM-1® contains live microbial's it also improves water permeability. The bugs go to work in the soil, increasing beneficial microorganisms and other organisms, this creates more pores for water and air. The increased permeability can decrease your water usage.

Pre-Soak seeds before sowing with diluted EM-1®. Air dry seeds if they are sticking together after soaking, never oven dry or expose directly to sunlight.
Dilute 1 Part EM-1® to 1,000 Parts Water
Soak Seeds for the appropriate time:
Small Seeds - 20 to 30 Minutes (ex. mustard seed)
Medium Seeds - 30 to 60 Minutes (ex. cucumber)
Large Seeds - 2 to 3 Hours (ex. pumpkin)
EM-1® can also be added to the seeding or transplant water during planting. With the same 1:1,000 dilution rate add EM-1® to the water tank.
If using pre-treated seeds, be sure they are not treated with antibacterial chemicals. This will kill the microorganisms in EM-1®.
Do not mix synthetic chemicals with the microbes in concentrated, non-diluted, form. EM-1® can be added after fertilizers are diluted with water. Many pesticides, such as Round-Up are antibiotic in nature and kill all the microbes within seconds of mixing. Therefore, if pesticides are to be used, please wait at least 48 hours between applications of pesticide and EM-1®.
