THE SOIL HEALTH BENEFITS OF EM® BOKASHI

The dynamic duo of EM-1® and EM® Bokashi is the best way to build organic soil that is fertile and healthy. By using the combination, you can go chemical-free without sacrificing plant health. We know the power of EM-1® Microbial Inoculant and the mechanisms behind the beneficial microorganisms but what does EM® Bokashi add to the mix?

WHAT IS EM®BOKASHI?

EM® Bokashi is a certified-organic bokashi fertilizer that introduces antioxidants and minerals into your soil and compost. Although originally used to accelerate the decomposition and health of composting, EM® Bokashi can be applied directly to the soil.

Defined as "fermented organic matter" in Japanese, Bokashi is generally known as fermented bran. Most Bokashi's are fermented wheat, cotton or rice bran as the organic material. EM® Bokashi uses EM-1® to ferment the organic rice bran.

Each handful is full of beneficial microorganisms and can be added as a top dress to your garden, added to your composting pile, or used to eliminate pet odors if needed.

HOW DOES EM® BOKASHI BENEFIT SOIL?

EM® Bokashi is full of beneficial microorganisms from being fermented with EM-1®.  When added to your soil, the microbes breakdown organic material and mineralize nutrients into plant available forms. Unlike EM-1® the rice bran provides nutrients to the beneficial microbes causing a growth of beneficial fungi called mycelium. Mycelium is very beneficial to soil and plants, so don't worry when you see the fuzzy white coating on the soil surface.

EM® Bokashi can help create a strong base for any garden or agriculture application, and with continued use will improve the quality and yields in the garden. Adding EM® Bokashi to your composting pile can be a great addition, however here are some additional benefits when you put it directly on the soil.

(1) INCREASE BENEFICIAL MICROORGANISM POPULATION

(2) INCREASE RATE OF ORGANIC MATTER BREAKDOWN

(3) ADDS ORGANIC COMPOST AND NUTRIENTS TO INCREASE GROWTH

(4) DECREASES OR ELIMINATES CHEMICAL INPUTS

(5) INCREASES NUTRIENT CYCLING

(6) INCREASED WATER RETENTION AND LESS WATER USAGE

WHAT MAKES EM® BOKASHI BETTER?

Bokashi has been used for decades to increase the fermentation and breakdown of compost. If you have a composting pile, this can go along way in growing a healthy garden. Unlike other regular Bokashi's on the market, EM® Bokashi is fermented with The Original EM-1® and then combined with organic Malibu Compost.

The combination is a nutrient rich EM® Bokashi your plants will love!

THE MANY WAYS TO USE EM BOKASHI®

  •  Add at 2% soil volume and mix throughout.

AS A TOP DRESS:

  • Applying EM® Bokashi throughout the growing season will ensure you continue to add organic matter and nutrients for the organisms in the soil.
  • Add 1/3 cup of EM® Bokashi per square foot as a soil top dress for in-ground, potted or indoor plants.

FOR COMPOSTING:

  • EM® Bokashi can speed up decomposition of organic matter, giving you nutrient-rich compost faster.
  • Sprinkle your compost pile with 1lb of EM® Bokashi per 100 square feet.

FOR PET ODOR CONTROL:

  • EM® Bokashi can get rid of foul odors and extend the life of any pet litter. Use with any animal such as cat, rabbits, chickens or  hamsters.
