The soil is the source of life to your plants, and contains both beneficial and harmful microorganisms. If your plants are weak and your yield is low, or you have insect or disease problems, it’s most likely because your soil has too many harmful microorganisms (bad bacteria) and not enough beneficial microorganisms ( essential microbes that your plants need to thrive).

The taste and sweetness of your produce is directly related to the health of your soil and population of effective microorganisms. You may not realize that in order to grow flavorful food, the soil needs to be living and nutrient-rich.
Effective Microorganisms naturally loosen compacted soil and improve flocculation. This will improve the texture and drainage in the soil, which means you don't need to water as often. Perfect for reducing your water bill!
Effective Microorganisms speed up the conversion of organic matter which means carbon and nutrients become available to your plants and other organisms.
Without this process nutrients remain in forms unavailable to your plants.
Better root growth, improves plant establishment and radical growth. As a result plants are resistant to drought and disease.
Growers using effective microorganisms in their gardening routine report upto 30% more yield from their plants.
Healthy soil and clean water are maintained by the diversity and balance of the community of microorganisms within them. When there is an unhealthy community the soil becomes depleted of nutrients and life. Ponds and rivers become murky and smelly.
When the diversity of microorganisms is rich, nature’ s self-purifying ability is enhanced.
Effective Microorganisms activate local and native microorganisms that live in the soil and maximize their natural power!

In the mid-late 1960’s, microorganisms were being studied around the world for various applications. Most of that research was on single strains of microbes using single inoculations.
Effective Microorganisms - EM Technology ® was "discovered" and developed by Professor Dr. Teruo Higa while he was a professor of horticulture at the College of Agriculture, University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan.
Dr. Higa decided to study combined cultures first to find which ones would co-exist.
A mixture he had thrown on a patch of grass before leaving for a school vacation was eventually to become what we know as EM-1®. Upon returning from vacation he noticed the area where he had thrown the “waste” product had grown considerably. He reviewed his notes and re-mixed his concoction.
Through years of experimentation he discovered the optimal combination of microbes and named the combination “EM®”, an acronym for “Effective Microorganisms®”.
The beneficial effects of EM is produced when the groups of microorganisms in EM・1, including lactic acid bacteria, yeast and phototrophic bacteria, activate native microorganisms in the environment and harness their intrinsic power.
For example, when the balance of microorganisms in the soil is disrupted, soil will be impoverished and plants and crops will not grow well.
However, if native microorganisms are activated, soil conditions will improve.
When the soil microbiology is in balance, plants will be healthy, therefore more resistant to damage caused by stressors such as disease or harmful insects.
The reason that EM ( effective microorganisms) can solve the problems it does is that EM restores a healthy balance of microorganisms.
Garden Applications:
General Application Rate: 1 oz. (2 tablespoons) per gallon of water.
You can also add EM-1 concentrate to a suitable hose-end sprayer and spray directly onto plants, lawn or soil surfaces. One 32 oz. hose end sprayer (set to 1 oz./gal.) should cover about 1/8 acre. Apply once per week throughout the growing season.
Agricultural Applications:
Apply an average of 1 gallon per acre per week from sowing until harvest.
Hydroponics Applications:
Add EM-1 as a 3% solution several times per week.
Houseplant Applications:
Mix EM-1 with water at a rate of 1 oz per gallon of water. Water in or spritz onto plants with a bottle sprayer.
Environment:
Outdoors, Crops, Orchards & Vineyards, Nursery, Greenhouse, Grow Room, Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Ponds, Household Use, Interiorscapes, Container Plants, Houseplants, Household Pets, Horses, Farm Animals, Livestock, Zoo Animals, Vegetable Gardens
