EM•1® Case Study: Oceans & Waterways

Treating large bodies of water and waterways can be tricky as they are not a closed system. However, EM® has been used to treat ocean areas, waterways, and aquatic shrimp and fish farms. Examples include:

  • The Seto Inland Sea, Japan (280 square miles in length)
  • Ilusions Lake, Mexico (484 acres)
  • Lake of Amatitilan, Guatemala (4,448 acres)
  • Mikawa Bay, Japan (233 square miles)
  • Kelian River, Malaysia
  • Tiscapa lake, Nicaraugua
  • Bogota River, Columbia

Effective Microorganisms® enhance the diversity of microorganisms in aquatic environments. In polluted aquatic environments, species cannot survive in a degraded environment. This continues to make the environment worse and generally build up sludge and algae. EM•1® adds diversity and increases native microorganisms to create a rich, self-purifying ecosystem where clean water will eventually return.

  • CLEANS SLUDGE
  • INCREASES MICROB DIVERSITY
  • HELPS SELF-PURIFY
  • MAINTAINS CLEAN WATER
  • PROVIDES NUTRIENTS TO WILDLIFE AND FISH
  • DECREASES BUILD UP ON WATER FEATURES

APPLICATION METHODS

Oceans and waterways will all require their own unique protocols. Please contact us to discuss and decided the best route. If you're working with a smaller or more enclosed aquatic environment you can use the recommendations below.

Before treating, it is important to find the source contaminating the water and depending on the condition it can take several months to fully recover.  The above project used Activated EM•1® which requires some labor and time before it's ready to use. TeraGanix has made this step easier by providing ready-to-use activated products for water treatment. The below suggestions used our Wt1000™ in place of Activated EM-1®

For Maintenance: Use the chart below

Poor Condition: Start with a rate of 1:10,000 (100 gallons per acre foot) of Wt1000™ per month.

Very Poor Condition: 1:10,000 of Wt1000™ twice a month

MAKE EM® MUDBALLS

EM® Mudballs are increasingly being used around the world to help treat polluted waters. Especially in Japan, home of EMRO, throwing mudballs into lakes, rivers, and waterways draw large crowds. Generally, polluted rivers accumulate sludge and have little to no oxygen.

By throwing EM® Mudballs they become embedded in the surface of the sludge and effective fermentation bacteria start to decompose the sludge. In addition, phototrophic bacteria consume harmful gasses and rid the water of foul odors.

Wt1000™ is an all natural bacterial inoculant that helps process waste, control odor and increase water quality. The beneficial microorganisms in Wt1000™, such as organic acids, enzymes and antioxidants, shift conditions from putrefaction to non-putrefactive.

In ponds and lagoons, the beneficial microbes in Wt1000™

can prevent slime and algae growth and maintain pristine water.

Wt1000™ can be used in a variety of other systems such as portable toilets, septic systems, waste lagoons, composting, water features and for livestock odors.

Regular use of EM•1® will  improve the bioavailable nutrients in the soil,  the texture and drainage of the soil,  and increase the growth of your  flowers, lawn, vegetables and trees.

EM•1® Microbial Inoculant, is a liquid bacterial product comprising three groups of beneficial microbes: Yeast, Photosynthetic Bacteria, and Lactic Acid Bacteria. They work together with local and native beneficial microbes, creating a synergy among microorganisms and larger forms of life including insects and worms.

EM Bokashi is a certified-organic bokashi fertilizer that introduces antioxidants and minerals into your soil and your compost. Enriched with EM® (effective microorganisms) that prevent the development of unpleasant odors.

Whether used in composting or directly added to your garden's soil,

EM Bokashi replaces chemical fertilizers with a biodynamic, non-GMO alternative that boosts plant health and production.
