Recycle Organic Waste In Half The Time
With the Bokashi method you can compost food scraps, meat, small bones and dairy in just 4 - 6 weeks. Once the bucket is full, leave for two weeks without opening and then bury the contents straight into the garden soil. After two more weeks the organic waste will have completely decomposed into nutrient rich compost.
Bokashi Compost Without Unpleasant Odors
The Bokashi Organko compost bin is an airtight bin that creates an anaerobic environment for fermenting organic waste. Sprinkle the Bokashi on top of the organic waste to kickstart the fermentation process and to prevent unpleasant odors, even when opening the container.
The unique bucket design catches a nutrient rich liquid fertilizer you can drain every 2-3 days and use to fertilize your indoor and outdoor plants.
Bokashi Tea should be diluted at a ratio of 100:1 (water:juice) to make the acid level safe for plants. Even when diluted, you should avoid adding it to young and tender plants or their foliage. Instead, add diluted bokashi juice to the soil surrounding the plants.

This next-generation kitchen composter weighs 1742,8grams, 96% of which are recycled polypropylene (PP), an emerging sustainable material.
Bokashi Organko is the only composter in the world to have been awarded the Red Dot Design award - The Red Dot is the award for high design quality.
Bokashi is a Japanese word meaning "fermented organic matter". The main difference between 'Bokashi' composting method and the 'traditional' composting method is that the food waste does not rot. Rotting food, is what creates the foul odors associated with traditional composting.
Unlike traditional composting, which is an aerobic process that requires oxygen, Bokashi is an anaerobic process that requires that you isolate the materials from oxygen as much as possible. The award winning design of the Bokashi Organko compost bin has an air-tight seal and a spigot at the bottom to drain off the liquid that is produced. The Bokashi liquid, is a highly nutritious superfood that can be used to fertilize your plants.
In order to have a good understanding of the Bokashi composting method, we first need to understand consortium microbes, the main ingredient of Bokashi bran. These organic substances prevent organic waste from rotting, they accelerate the fermentation process and eliminate unpleasant odors.
Unlike traditional composting, Bokashi composting requires only about 10 days to convert organic materials into useable material, and the nutrient value of the material is among the highest of any composting method.

Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.2 / 5 from 39 reviews.
Love this composter, especially when i learned how to grow hydroponically, and use the organic compost liquid to feed my plants, and when i'm consistent with using this, i rarely see brown or yellow leaves because the plants enjoy the liquid that comes from this.
Another great feature of this is that it has valveless drain system, meaning you can put a sifter next to the drain hole to catch anything solid while the liquid is poured into a container, and since there is no valve you don't have to worry about constant clogging & cleaning the drain system, which makes this a whole lot easier to use, so this was worth buying.
I love this composting bucket. The insert with the rubber seal really allows you to compress the material into the bucket and expel the excess air out. I feel it creates a better anaerobic environment than the gray bucket. Plus, it looks nice and takes up less room than the other style.
The bran that came with the containers was not what I was expecting. It was in big solid clumps which made it difficult to measure and sprinkle over the waste. NOTE: instructions say to use 20ml’s of bran which was confusing as ml typically indicates liquid measure as posed to dry. I crumbled it up as much as possible but I’m not sure that worked as intended.
I poured off the liquid as instructed but very little liquid accumulated after a couple of weeks even though I continued to add waste and bran.
When I emptied the full bin after sitting for 2 weeks, I could not determine if contents fermented decomposed. There did appear to be white mold on top.
I do not expect you to include this in your reviews, but preferably a direct response to help me understand how to properly use.
Store owner replied:
Hi Charlotte, sorry it wasn't what you were expecting. Our production manager Andrew will reach out and call you today to talk through it, help resolve and get you replacement product if needed
For as poorly as they work, these are very overpriced. My biggest complaint is that the inner lid that is supposed to seal does not. It is a friction seal which is bound to fail, as mine now is, and really needs to be redesigned. And while the smell due to the poor seal is not horrible it is far from pleasant in the initial stages of decomposition.
Easy..nice size..I have 3 and just rotate. Also the spigot is nice and I use the tea on a regular basis especially now in the spring and summer being from Pennsylvania.
I really like the look and feel of these and I now have 4 of them in use.
1 of the 4 doesn’t drain the liquid at all - I have to figure out if I can fix it. The other three do it beautifully.
My big disappointment is that the top doesn’t fasten to the bottom. I took some in my car to a compost drop off location and it accidentally fell over and deposited much of the contents on my seat - quite a job cleaning it up. I don’t know why they didn’t make it so that the top screws or clips on. It won’t be so much of an issue when I have my own garden again soon!
I like it very much except that the exterior top
Doesn’t fasten to the container. I don’t have a garden currently (wil do again soon) so I am taking the finished compost to a friend and it fell over on the tru k of my car and spilled the contents everywhere!
My bucket smells, even though I dump em bokashi as instructed and sometimes even more. I’m careful to compress air out with the compressor lid. The outer bucket lid can be better, as it seems to easily fall off. I had problems with flies this summer, which got me flustered a bit.
The bucket spigot has not held up. I am disappointed in it because after only 2 uses, it drips continually. They did throw in 2 extra spigots with my order so they must know they fail. The process of fermenting is going very well and I do think bokashi is the way to go.
It's my first time trying anything with Bokashi. I let our first fill sit for three weeks. Very little tea came out when I drained it every three or so days. It was pretty stinky.
When I emptied the bucket out last week, only the bottom 2-3 inches had that white fungus. The rest was just as it was when we placed it into the bucket. Amazing how fresh things look when they have not decomposed the usual aerobic way.
Now I wonder if the Bokashi bran that came with the bucket is not viable any more? It clumps together more and more, every time I open the bag. I am getting to the end of filling our second load.
I bought one last year and enjoyed it so much, I got another one this year. Now one can sit and ferment for 2 weeks while I start another one. Great quality. Easy to use.
The bins are great and look nice on the counter. They also have good capacity. My only complaint is that the internal lid should IMO be easier to use. Having to pull it up and out every time I want to drop something in the bin is not convenient. I’m usually cooking and have other things doing on. And you don’t want to leave the lid off because of the smell.
All told I’m happy to have a faster way to decompose things for my compost.
Can’t tell if it’s working so far. Following the instructions. It’s half full, doesn’t smell at all, but there is no tea being produced so I haven’t had anything drain off.
It’s a bit difficult to get the anaerobic conditions needed to ensure no smell and no bugs in reality. I was hoping for a more robust container, wishing now I had tried another maker I was considering.
It’s my first bokashi bucket ever, so not a bad place to start.
This is my first adventure into composting. I investigated a few Bokashi systems and decided on this one. Satisfied with the first one, I purchased a second. A well made product. The only thing that I would change, would be a tighter top lid. The inner lid sits in snugly making for an anaerobic atmosphere.
The ordering process was easy and what I received was as described. I am still a newbie at composting so at this point am neutral as to how successful I will be with this process.
I expected to gather liquid and drain the composter after the first week or so but there was none to collect. Perhaps I am not using enough of the EM granules. As I stated I am still learning.
The composter is attractive and has found a place in my kitchen. Since I live in a condo community composting outdoors is not permitted. Have found a community garden though that will gladly take my compost.
I’ve tried bokashi 2 other ways (diy 2 bucket method was extremely gross, another Teraganix bucket system was good but 2 out of 2 bucket spigots broke within a few months and then we’re leaky, also gross) and this one is amazing!! I’m about a month in, already on my 2nd fill. Seems to be quite airtight- I’m getting good fermentation results and there’s no smell of rot, & barely any smell at all, even when the bucket is open. No problems with leaks (yet!). The only downside so far is that it’s not large- I’ll be buying a 2nd bucket to fix this problem though.
I am on my second compost container. I buried the first one a few days ago and mixed it in with composted garden soil delivered by a local nursery and native clay/sand dirt to prepare for transplanting a Rocky Mountain juniper in a couple of weeks.
My goal is to add nutrients to many parts of my yard to enrich the New Mexico high desert native soil.
Your equipment is just what I needed to start the process in my kitchen. Instructions are fantastic and the bran mixture really keeps the odor away. Now I look forward to seeing the results in the garden and surrounding yard.
I haven’t diluted the liquid to fertilize plants as I need to calculate the proportions in the measure I am familiar with. My husband will help me there.
I must also say I am delighted to not be throwing food items in the garbage!!!
Thank you.
I would give it a 5 but I feel like I need more time to make a decision. It’s convenient, ecological, and looks very nice in my kitchen. I wasn’t sure what pre-compost was until after the first bin had fermented after two weeks and so I’m working with that right now. So far, so good. Cheers!
It is very simple to layer the food scraps. No mess. It doesn’t allow any smell to escape when close (unlike a ceramic counter top composter). It sits on the floor next to my kitchen trash can. I am almost ready to let it sit for the two weeks before burying the scraps. Can’t wait to see the results. I also love how easy it is to drain the liquid and either pour in my drain or mix with water to fertilize my plants. I am very happy with my purchase.
I liked the compost bucket but I decided in the end to sell it to a friend of mine who really wanted one. My original, simple compost bucket that is just a bucket with a lid is good enough for me. I am going to use that one. I filled your compost bucket once andused the bokashi to aid decompostion and it helped, but it was a slow process all the same. I generate a lot of vegetable waste in the kitchen and the bokashi did not work fast enough for me.
It is a very well made bucket, I like the release cap at the bottom that allows the draining of liquid, that is an excellent feature. My friend was excited about that too.
The design is simple enough to not stand out on my kitchen counter, but I still show it off to friends when they come over anyway. I still haven't figured out the use for the strap just yet, but I haven't finished fermenting my first batch either. Already my plants have been getting the juice from the drainage spout and flourishing as a result. Overall, I love it!
I'm very happy with my purchase. I got the smaller unit. I actually bought two. I get a lot of leftovers from neighbors so I wanted to have one that I could fill while waiting on the other to finish "cooking." And I'm glad I did. My system is working well. As for the units themselves, they are great! I love the design. The others I was considering were all like 5 gallon buckets and the colors were atrocious. I wanted something that was pleasing to the eye as I keep them in my kitchen for easy access. These are definitely nice looking and blend in, in my kitchen space. They are easy to clean. While this system is well designed and has buttons on each side for quick release to remove the inner bucket, they are a bit hard. I have some weakness in my hands but I am still able to get them out, though not as easily as I had hoped. Also, these are listed as white, but they are not a pure white. I wouldn't even call them an off-white. They are actually more like a light light beige. So if you have white cabinets like me just know there will be some contrast. I also really love the size of these. As I have some physical ailments and limitations I really needed something on the smaller side (compared to a 5 gallon bucket, ain't no way I could lift that when full). These are the perfect size. They are about the size of my bathroom trash can or there abouts. When full, I have no problem lifting even though I have considerable weakness. And I was a bit worried that these have a twist off knob to let the bokashi juice out. I thought the spigot would be easier but after working with these, I'm actually glad they don't have the spigot. I think the twist knob is more airtight and better for the bokashi. Also when the bokashi juice does drain it is not like thin juice it can be clumpy. Not sure how that would make it out of the spigot. These are also sturdy. The don't tump over or anything. And it's nice that the carrying strap is removeable. I'm very happy I purchased these over the others I was looking at and would recommend to friends.
I have Teraganix Bokashi Compost bucket since a month or more now, couldn’t be more happy and so are my plants. Keeps the enviroment odor free from compost and is very stylish under my sink!
I love this particular model of container, it's sleek, relatively unobtrusive and holds a lot, The airtight seal does make a difference in decreasing the time needed for it to be soil ready. I also like the spigot, as it doesn't get clogged.
I love the bokashi bucket- already have 2, so I can rotate to second one when first one is full & fermenting! It speeds up the composting process! I just bury it in my compost pile or right in my garden during winter. The third one I bought was a gift for my sister.
I'm loving this! Since developing limited mobility I was unable to frequent my composter. Now I can collect my compostables inside with the added benefit of the Bokashi tea for my house plants. My only regret is not knowing about this sooner!
I was very excited to find this composter! At our previous home we had a big compost bin in the back yard. Where we live now we can't have that. I started using this composter about a week ago, but so far I've gotten no liquid that drains off. I'm realizing that having just one bin isn't such a great idea as it has to sit idle (for the scraps to really get composted) so you really need two. I'll see how this works when I soon begin the 2 week time where it is just doing its composting.
