Soil Health Benefits of EM Bokashi
WHAT IS EM® BOKASHI?
EM® Bokashi is a certified-organic bokashi fertilizer that introduces antioxidants and minerals into your soil and compost. Although originally used to accelerate the decomposition and health of composting, EM® Bokashi can be applied directly to the soil.
Defined as "fermented organic matter" in Japanese, Bokashi is generally known as fermented bran. Most Bokashi's are fermented wheat, cotton or rice bran as the organic material. EM® Bokashi uses EM-1® to ferment the organic rice bran.
Each handful is full of beneficial microorganisms and can be added as a top dress to your garden, added to your composting pile, or used to eliminate pet odors if needed.
HOW DOES EM® BOKASHI BENEFIT SOIL?
EM® Bokashi is full of beneficial microorganisms from being fermented with EM-1®. When added to your soil, the microbes breakdown organic material and mineralize nutrients into plant available forms. Unlike EM-1® the rice bran provides nutrients to the beneficial microbes causing a growth of beneficial fungi called mycelium. Mycelium is very beneficial to soil and plants, so don't worry when you see the fuzzy white coating on the soil surface.
EM® Bokashi can help create a strong base for any garden or agriculture application, and with continued use will improve the quality and yields in the garden. Adding EM® Bokashi to your composting pile can be a great addition, however here are some additional benefits when you put it directly on the soil.
(1) INCREASE BENEFICIAL MICROORGANISM POPULATION
(2) INCREASE RATE OF ORGANIC MATTER BREAKDOWN
(3) ADDS ORGANIC COMPOST AND NUTRIENTS TO INCREASE GROWTH
(4) DECREASES OR ELIMINATES CHEMICAL INPUTS
(5) INCREASES NUTRIENT CYCLING
(6) INCREASED WATER RETENTION AND LESS WATER USAGE
